In the background a river winds toward a mountainous landscape. The following text appears on the left: “Are these miracles? The dictionary says a miracle is ‘an event that appears unexplainable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God.’” On the right is the text, “Long-fall survival is certainly miraculous, but keep in mind that only a very small number of people who fall from great heights survive.” Panel 2: The second panel at the bottom left shows a small fighter plane firing at and destroying a World War II-era, four-engine bomber. To the left and below, the text reads, “When they do survive, it is for some very specific reasons, such as what they hit when they reach the ground. Panel 3: In this panel an aviator is falling on the right next to a quote from Thomas McGarry, a Free Faller: “The way I look at it is that there were thousands who hit the silk during the war, and it would have been nothing short of a miracle if there hadn’t been one or two incidents like this.” This cartoon is part of a series called Falling. It is written and drawn by Jim Hamilton who can be found on Instagram at Green Harbor Publications (all one word, greenharborpublications).
