How long does it take to fall 20,000 feet?

Panel 1: In the upper left corner is a small illustration of a jet airliner bursting into five pieces. To its right is the question, “How long does it take to fall 20,000 feet?” Directly below the question is a drawing of a dark-haired woman in a dark, short-sleeved shirt, light pants with a dark belt, and dark shoes. We see her from the front, and she looks down toward the ground. To the left is the text, “Falling without an inflated parachute, an average-sized person will take about two minutes to fall that far.” Panel 2: Enclosed in a white cloud at the top of the panel is the text, “If that same person had a parachute and deployed it at 20,000 feet, it would take around sixteen minutes to reach earth” Below the cloud are two small drawings. One shows a skydiver with an inflated parachute above them. Under that drawing is the text “16 minutes”. To the right of that small drawing is an arrow pointing down toward a falling person with no parachute. Set vertically next to the arrow are the words “2 minutes”. Panel 3: At the left of the panel is the text, “A falling person reaches their highest rated of descent after about 2,000 feet. After that they no longer accelerate due to air resistance. In a speech balloon at the top of the panel are the words, “It’s called ‘terminal velocity.’ ” These words come from the woman, who is falling headfirst toward the ground. Panel 4: Below a drawing of the woman, who is now falling face down, are the words, “This means that someone falling from 20,000 feet will hit the earth at roughly the same speed as someone falling from 2,000 feet.” A speech balloon containing the words “At about 120 mph” comes out of the woman and points toward the portion of the text that references the speed. This cartoon uses a precise transcription of Nicholas Alkemade’s appearance on the BBC One program “I’ve got a Secret,” which originally aired on December 5, 1984. The comic’s title appears at the top: “When Nicholas Alkemade was on “I’ve Got a Secret. “ The words “I’ve Got a Secret” appear in a cursive font. All of the other text appears in all caps in a sans serif font. The entire comic is in black and white with a few shades of gray. At the top left-hand side of the page is a man in a dark suit and a striped tie with a hankerchief in his suit pocket. He sits with his hands folded in front of him and a blank expression on his face. He is slightly balding, has a moustache, and is wearing glasses. His name appears underneath him: Nicholas Alkemade. Sitting next to him at the same table is the host of the show, Tom O’Connor. He wears a light-colored suit with an even lighter tie. He has long, helmet-y, light-colored hair. Panel 1: This comic is all in one panel. At the top left is the question, “Does a ball thrown straight up take the same time to go up as it does to come down?” Directly below the question is the response, ‘Well, it depends.” The text continues, “In a vacuum, the time going up and the time going down would be equal.” Directly below this text we see two boys having a conversation.
