Hold Still Episode 50

1. Kim is squatting low to the floor in front of her mushroom monotubs, looking closely at the one directly in front of her. “October 27. Volunteered at the wolf sanctuary. Enzo went to Sammi’s powder puff game.”
2. Kim is standing and working on one of the mushroom monotubs. She is wearing elbow-length gloves and sticking her hand in the tub. There is a bottle of cleaner on the counter next to her. Enzo is recording it on his phone. “October 28. Worked on civic engagement paper all day. Cased the oyster mushrooms and carefully cut some mold from the wine caps. Cried about this TEAM fuckery.”
3. Kim is in bed, leaning against the wall behind her in a reclining position. Her cat is sitting up on her lap. They are both turning their heads to look at the camera, as if someone walked in on them. “October 29. Flipped compost in the morning. Wrote art professor re: drawing workshop class. Worked until 6 p.m.”
4. Kim is reaching above her head to draw a large tyrannosaurus rex skull. Next to the skull is a pair of scissors and some paper, so it seems to be an aerial view. “October 30. Worked. Enzo and Sammi went to homecoming dance, they were out until 1 a.m. Dino display for the library.”
5. A still from a video of Sammi greeting Enzo, approaching him for a hug. They are both dressed in semi-formal wear—Enzo a suit and tie, Sammi an evening dress—and little crowns. Enzo is wearing a covid mask. He is touching his crown, seemingly nervous. The video is 12 seconds in. “October 31. Enz went to a Halloween sleepover, I made them cake.”
6. Tony and another man around his age or older are sitting at the kitchen bar in high stools, dressed casually. There are empty shallow bowls placed in front of them. Tony is crossing his arms and smiling knowingly at the other man. The man is leaning forward, resting on his elbow and smiling at the camera/reader. “November 1. Had our last presentation in permaculture class. Ross was in town and came over for dinner.”

Kim sits at her desk working on a landscape design. A wall clock and two potted plants decorate the background by the window. “December 2. Finished compost bumper sticker and worked on final design. Online class.”

We all went to mom’s (played Jackbox and ate Chinese).”

Kim is lying on her side, spooning her dog and smiling softly. “November 20. Worked. Enzo slept over Mom’s. She drove him to a party after.”

Kim is turned away from the reader, sitting on the floor with legs stretched out and working in front of an empty mushroom monotub. She is drilling a large hole in the side of the tub. This panel is much more minimal than most in the series, with just a white background. “October 15. Set up mushroom monotubs before work. Mixed oyster and wine cap spawn grain into substrate (separately). Worked until 6 p.m.”

In gray and white, a medium shot shows Lynn staring into the distance, clutching a travel coffee mug and looking solemnly nostalgic. She thinks to herself, “I miss those days so hard!”

Tony is standing out his house in a large pot meant for a planted tree. He is shoveling soil from a wheel barrow into the pot. There is a pile of dirt behind him, and an already potted tree off to his side. “October 9. Worked. Planted the Venus mango tree.”

Jim sits up in his hospital bed. There is a book open in his lap, and a tray of food slightly raised above him. He is smiling.

In the gray and white of Lynn's near-present day, Lorraine holds onto James's arm as they walk on a path from a house blanketed in snow. They are dressed in hats, scarves, and winter coats.
