"Gutter" page 1 Derek fumes about making "comics about romanticized tragedy." He touches on the ethical dilemmas in making autobiographical comics.

Derek ponders quitting the comic, but a bystander begs him not to, saying he is "shining a light in darkness." He proceeds to tell them about a "time we robbed a guy for food money." The bystander, whose parents were a lawyer and surgeon, is moved to tears and applauds his vulnerability.

Derek, standing humbly before a shining sun, replies, "No, I applaud you. We all suffer in different ways my friend. You're one of the good ones." The character, basking in his light, replies, "Too kind." He waves them off, then chuckles too himself and says, "I stole his wallet."

Might have to quit my job in order to take'm. Anxious about the financial hit but I'd have more time for art/comics."
