Is water a good thing to fall into? “No,” says one of three fish looking up at the question from underwater. The text continues: “When folks think about falling into water, they imagine jumping into a pool off a diving board. Panel 2: At the top of the panel, a person jumps off of a diving board into a pool. You can only see their feet and calves. Underneath the text says: “But even a leap off of a low diving board can result in a painful belly flop. Imagine then, such a fall from hundreds or thousands of feet.” Panel 3: “The problem with water is that it is actually quite hard.” These words appear above a mermaid who looks at a fish she has caught and is holding in her left hand. Her long dark hair curls behind her. Her well-placed right hand and forearm conceal her naked breasts. Most of her scaled lower body is under water, though her tail lifts up and out of the water. Panel 4: “Falling into water at high speed is like hitting concrete, except concrete won’t swallow you after breaking your bones and knocking you out.” To the left of these words a man clad only in shorts is viewed from above as he falls and creates a huge splash in the water. This cartoon is part of a series called Falling. It is written and drawn by Jim Hamilton who can be found on Instagram at Green Harbor Publications (all one word, greenharborpublications).

This is a single-panel cartoon that describes “Speed, Distance, and Time of Fall for an Average-Sized Adult in a Stable Freefall Position.” There are three labeled axes on this graph.
