Panel 1:
In the sky above a hilly horizon is the question, “Has an animal ever helped save a long faller?” At the left are the words, “In September of 2000, a 19-year-old man named Kevin Hines left a suicide note at home and took a bus to the Golden Gate Bridge.” To the right of these words, a highway winds its way through buildings toward a massive bridge.
Panel 2:
On a dark background we see a white city bus with the acronym ‘MUNI’ on its side. A person exits the bus, walking to the right edge of the panel. Dressed in a t-shirt and dark pants, it is clear that the person is depressed because of the dark rain cloud over their head. Above the bus are the words, “He wanted to jump off of the bridge and end his life. Voices in his head were telling him to die.” The text continues below the bus, “When he got to the bridge he climbed over the railing and umped.
Panel 3:
At the top of the panel is a drawing of the young man as he begins to fall. The railing of the bridge is directly behind him. Below him is the text, “He regretted jumping immediately. He fell more than 200 feet into the water.
Panel 4:
At the top of the panel on a gray background is the text, “Hines said that a sea lion helped him keep afloat until the Coast Guard arrived to rescue him.” Below this text is a drawing of Hines clinging to a sea lion. Through the efforts of the sea lion, Hines is able to hold his head above water. Two fish look on in amazement. Below this, on a dark gray background, are the words, If you are despondent, dial or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.”
